Attorney General Josh Stein learned early on that some things are worth fighting for, no matter the opposition. As Attorney General, Josh and his team have worked to:

• Protect vulnerable North Carolinians from fraudsters and scammers, including going after companies that price-gouged customers in the wake of natural disasters.
• Tackle the largest backlog of untested rape kits in the country, bringing justice to victims and putting rapists behind bars.
• Lead the national effort to hold accountable the big drug companies that created and fueled the opioid crisis, securing more than $55 billion in settlement funds– $1.5 billion of which are bringing much-needed treatment and recovery services to people across North Carolina.
• Hold e-cigarette manufacturer Juul accountable for sparking a teen vaping epidemic – the first state in the country to do so.
• Defend people’s right to vote and to vote in fair districts

Robert D. Broeksmit, CMB

President & Chief Executive Officer, Mortgage Bankers Association

Robert (Bob) Broeksmit is President and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Bob is a senior finance executive and corporate officer with over 35 years of experience in the mortgage sector. He has directed all aspects of lending activities, including marketing, sales, operations, secondary marketing, loan servicing, and default management. He has also served as a mortgage underwriting expert testifying on many large, high-profile cases.

Prior to joining MBA in 2018, Bob served as President and Chief Operating Officer with Treliant, heading the firm's mortgage litigation support practice and serving diverse financial services clientele including large banks, independent mortgage lenders, community banks, credit unions, and service providers to the mortgage industry. As a Washington-based financial services consultancy, Treliant's mortgage practice included strategic advisory for executive management and corporate boards; litigation defense, including file reviews, litigation strategy, expert reports, and expert testimony; CFPB examination preparation and implementation of mortgage regulations promulgated by the CFPB and other regulators; and operational aspects of mortgage banking, ranging from origination to servicing and loss mitigation.

Before Treliant, Bob held senior leadership positions in the mortgage business, including fourteen years with Chevy Chase Bank (including after its purchase by Capital One), where he was Executive Vice President and President of its B.F. Saul Mortgage Company subsidiary. Bob also was a Vice President at Prudential Home Mortgage for seven years. He has overseen annual originations of $9 billion, a balance sheet of $10 billion in residential mortgages, and a servicing portfolio of $20 billion. He also held positions at Great Western Mortgage, Krupp Residential Mortgage, and The Money Store.

Bob has served as the Chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association's Residential Board of Governors and as a member of its Board of Directors. Firms under his leadership have garnered multiple awards for servicing operations excellence, including Freddie Mac's Tier One and Hall of Fame designations. He is a Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) and a graduate of Yale University.

Lindsey Johnson

President & Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Bankers Association

Lindsey Johnson joined the Consumer Bankers Association (CBA) as President and CEO on July 5, 2022.

Prior to joining CBA, Johnson served as President of U.S. Mortgage Insurers, where she worked with member companies to advance the value of private mortgage insurance to borrowers and taxpayers.

Johnson previously held previous positions at PwC, as well as in the U.S. Senate, where she served as the Republican Staff Director for the Senate Banking Committee’s National Security and International Trade and Finance (NSITF) Subcommittee, as well as a Senior Policy Advisor to Senator Mark Kirk (R-Illinois).

Johnson also was Director for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta for seven years, representing the Bank in D.C. at the highest levels of government during several key legislative reforms that impacted the Bank including the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 and Dodd-Frank Act.

A native of Texas, Johnson began her career in D.C. working with former House Republican Conference Chair J.C. Watts in the private sector. She received an MBA from Georgetown University. Johnson is a Director on the Board for Habitat for Humanity Northern Virginia, an Advisory Council member for National Housing Conference, and an Advisory Board Member for the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business Advisory Committee. Johnson also was the 2018-2019 past-president of Women in Housing and Finance. She resides in Arlington, Virginia, with her husband and three children.

Ben Olson

Senior Associate Director for Consumer Protection & Supervision, Federal Reserve Board 

Ben Olson serves as the senior associate director for Consumer Protection & Supervision in the Federal Reserve Board’s Division of Consumer and Community Affairs. In this role, he oversees the division’s consumer compliance supervision and enforcement program, including the functions related to bank applications, Reserve Bank oversight, examination policy, examiner training and commissioning, consumer complaints, fair lending, unfair and deceptive acts and practices (UDAPs), and the Community Reinvestment Act.

Olson has almost two decades of experience working on consumer protection issues at federal agencies and in the private sector. Before taking his current position, he previously served as the head of Global Card Compliance for Capital One, as a partner at the law firm Buckley LLP, and in a variety of policymaking, rulewriting, and enforcement roles at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Reserve Board, and Federal Trade Commission.

 
Olson earned his JD from the Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor's degree in political science and English literature from Tulane University.

Varda Hussain

Principal Deputy Chief of the Housing and Civil Enforcement Section,  Department of Justice Civil Rights Division

Varda Hussain currently serves as the Principal Deputy Chief of the Housing and Civil Enforcement Section of Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. In this role, Ms. Hussain supervises fair lending cases involving a pattern or practice of discrimination, including matters under the Department’s Combating Redlining Initiative. She also leads the Section’s work on algorithmic discrimination. From 2018 to 2021, Ms. Hussain served as the Managing Counsel for Fair Lending Enforcement at the Federal Reserve, where she oversaw fair lending examinations and managed fair lending compliance through supervision and enforcement. From 2008 to 2018, Ms. Hussain served in various roles in the Civil Right Division of the Department of Justice, including Special Litigation Counsel for Fair Lending where her responsibilities included management of fair lending enforcement, including in the areas of redlining, pricing discrimination, and algorithmic bias.
Ms. Hussain is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia School of Law.

J. Frank Vespa-Papaleo

Principal Deputy Fair Lending Director, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)

J. Frank Vespa-Papaleo serves as the Principal Deputy Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Office of Fair Lending & Equal Opportunity, which coordinates the Bureau’s efforts to ensure fair, equitable, and nondiscriminatory access to credit. Frank has played an integral role in providing executive leadership throughout the Bureau on various policy initiatives including the Bureau’s Tech Sprints, Special Purpose Credit Programs, fair lending enforcement and supervision, limited English proficiency, LGBT consumer issues, small business lending data collection, public assistance income, and credit invisible, underserved, and underbanked individuals.

Frank previously served as Executive Director of the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, Office of the Attorney General; Senior Counsel to the New Jersey State Public Advocate; and as Chief of Enforcement for HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity in Region 2 (New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico). Frank was also in private practice in New Jersey with a focus on administrative law, labor law, and discrimination in housing, lending, employment, education, and public accommodations. Frank is a graduate of Northwestern University and Boston University School of Law and lives in Maryland with his husband and son.

Sean McGuire

Assistant General Counsel – Executive Director, Wells Fargo & Company

Sean McGuire serves as Wells Fargo’s enterprise lead fair lending attorney and Consumer Lending lead UDAAP attorney. Sean leads fair lending legal strategy, provides leadership, advice, and guidance to the Company on escalated or strategic fair lending matters, including fair lending exams, emerging risk issues, redlining, pricing, underserved access to credit, and artificial intelligence and machine learning. Sean also advises on UDAAP matters. vision. Sean joined Wells Fargo in 2018 to lead the fair lending legal team.
 
Prior to Wells Fargo, Sean was the fair lending compliance executive at U.S. Bank and TCF Bank in Minneapolis and also served as Deputy Chief Compliance Officer at U.S. Bank. Sean’s career includes over a decade of progressive legal experience at U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo, including Assistant General Counsel for Consumer and Payments at U.S. Bank. Sean has served on various industry fair lending committees and forums. 

Jesse Van Tol

President & CEO, National Community Reinvestment Coalition

Jesse Van Tol is NCRC’s President and CEO. He has been with NCRC since
2006 and has held a variety of leadership positions, eventually becoming
chief executive in 2018. His work championing fair and responsible banking
has resulted in nearly $300 billion in new investments in low- and
moderate-income communities through Community Benefits Agreements
with banking institutions. Through his leadership, NCRC has grown today
to an organization with assets of nearly $150 million and an annual budget
of $35 million.

Jesse is a popular speaker and lecturer, and has testified before Congress,
and appeared on NPR, in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal,
Washington Post, POLITICO and many other outlets. He also sits on a
variety of advisory boards, including the Federal Reserve Board’s Consumer
Advisory Council, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s Affordable Housing
Advisory Councils. He is a member of the consumer advisory councils of
Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, TRUIST, Fifth Third, Huntington
National Bank, First Horizon, KeyBank, Quicken Loans, Santander and
numerous others. Jesse was also a Senior Fellow with Humanity in Action,
an international human rights group, and a communications institute
Fellow with Opportunity Agenda.

Jesse received his bachelor’s degree in History and International Studies
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and received an executive
education certificate from the Harvard Kennedy school as part of
NeighborWorks’ Achieving Excellence.

Grace Brasington

Senior Managing Director, Asurity Advisors

Grace is a risk and compliance management expert and financial services industry leader with over 30 years of global corporate and consulting experience. At banks, FinTech companies, and consulting firms, her oversight responsibilities have included risk and compliance, fair and responsible banking, CRA, deposit operations, financial crime, consumer banking, payment systems, information technology, complaints management, mortgage, consumer and commercial lending, and business strategy. Areas of focus have included risk assessments, risk mitigation and management, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, data management, compliance management systems, and organizational transformation.

In her current role, Grace leads the Asurity Advisors practice as Senior Managing Director. In this capacity, she provides input and strategic direction relative to the Risk Exec product and leads the go to market activities for advisory service offerings.

Grace’s corporate roles have included Chief Compliance Officer of SunTrust Banks and Chief Risk Officer of Lender Processing Services (now Black Knight Financial Services, a leading FinTech company). At IBM’s Watson Financial Services Division, she led the design, development, implementation, and acquisition strategies of a number of technologies focused on regulatory compliance, risk management, and financial crime. Her consulting positions have included Partner at Guidehouse (formerly Navigant Consulting), where she led client development and relations regarding FinTech, financial crimes, and fraud. At KPMG, she was Director of the Southeast Risk Advisory Practice, focused on enterprise banking clients.

Grace is a frequent speaker on emerging technology, recently including a keynote on RegTech compliance implications at an American Banker event, as well as addressing international conferences and meetings of regulators on subjects including artificial intelligence for risk management, cognitive technology in boardrooms, and building trust and confidence in big data.
Grace earned a BS in Finance and Management from Florida State University. She has been recognized by the industry on several occasions for her technology innovation and was awarded Industry Academy Membership by IBM in 2018.

Robert Maddox

In the past decade, Robert Maddox handled more national/multi-state state attorneys general investigations and related consent judgments than any attorney in the United States.

His work involves representing clients before the CFPB, DOJ, EOUST, OCC, FRB, HUD, SEC and multiple state regulatory agencies, including banking, finance and insurance agencies.

With Bradley’s national competitive fee advantage, he continued the firm’s representation post-consent judgment on most matters to handle redress of business systems, internal and external reporting, and account remediation – and still provides board training, compliance, and litigation representation to many of those same clients.

Crisis Management: Every crisis is relative – relative to a company’s history, reputation, current PR environment and regulatory/litigation burden. Negotiations: From complex commercial real estate transactions to regulatory examinations, Robert’s working philosophy is focused on education and overcoming any potential preconceived judgments and misperceptions held by the counterparty. This approach requires a diligence in understanding the client’s business and approach to the transaction/issue, then turning to the counterparty with the goal to educate, listen and negotiate a resolution.

Investigations and Fraud Matters: Constructing an investigation protocol, strategy and interim reporting, while being engaged with only limited facts or employee/whistleblower allegations, requires experience and an appreciation of knowing you are already in a professional minefield. The situation is equally challenging in handling a client’s matter where there is a suspicion or allegation of fraudulent behavior. Robert is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) who works on both of these types of matters. These are his professional favorites as they are complex, multi-dimensional, real life puzzles that may include internal/external reporting, criminal referral, regulatory or congressional inquiry, and civil litigation.

Consumer Financial Services Compliance and Litigation: His representation of clients is both trial practice and compliance, which leads him to trial and appellate courts in every state/district from Florida to California, and from Washington to Washington, D.C. These cases usually involve multiple causes of action, including TILA, HOEPA, FDCPA, FCRA, RESPA, RICO, predatory lending, mortgage-related fees and services, insurance packing and state deceptive trade practice laws. He is fortunate to be one of a handful of attorneys in the nation who is a Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB), and he utilizes that business background to assist in resolving both regulatory inquiries and litigation matters.

Commercial Real Estate and the Mortgage Industry: Robert litigates most facets of the commercial real estate and mortgage industry, including origination, warehouse lending, pooling and servicing agreements, loan repurchase disputes, investor disputes, secondary market representations and warranties, servicing matters, commercial mortgages, settlement services issues and mortgage fraud. Robert is on faculty at the Cumberland School of Law, where he teaches Real Estate Transfer, Finance and Development and previously taught State Constitutional Law. He is also an adjunct professor in the Masters of Real Estate Development program at Auburn University. Previously, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama School of Law from 2001 to 2006 and taught both graduate and undergraduate courses on American, Legal, and Constitutional history at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1998 to 2007.

Kathleen Ryan

Senior Vice President, Fair and Responsible Banking, American Bankers Association

Kathleen “Kitty” Ryan is Senior Vice President for Fair and Responsible Banking at the American Bankers Association. She focuses on fair lending issues at ABA, including anti-discrimination laws, laws prohibiting unfair, deceptive or abusive acts or practices, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) section 1071 rules. Kitty joined ABA from Morrison & Foerster LLP, where she was counsel in the financial services practice group, working on fair lending and mortgage issues. Kitty is the former Deputy Assistant Director for the Office of Regulations at the CFPB, where she was instrumental in the planning and oversight of mortgage- and fair-lending related rulemakings, including mortgage servicing regulations, Truth in Lending Act-Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (TILA-RESPA) Integrated Disclosures rules, and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act. Prior to joining the CFPB, Kitty served as Senior Regulatory Counsel at JPMorgan Chase & Co., where she focused on regulatory issues impacting mortgage and fair lending issues. Kitty also developed her extensive mortgage and fair lending related experience while with the Consumer and Community Affairs Division of the Federal Reserve Board (FRB).

Christa Carter

Head of Fair Lending and Responsible Banking, Flagstar

Christa Carter joined Flagstar in January 2024, as the Head of Fair Lending and Responsible Banking. She has 25 years of experience in Financial Services in Risk Management, Compliance, Internal Audit and Finance with 11 years focused on Fair Lending.
 
Prior to joining Flagstar, Christa served as Senior Director, Fair Lending and Responsible Banking with Truist Bank. Her purview included Fair Lending, Responsible Banking, HMDA and 1071 compliance. Previously, Christa served in Compliance leadership roles at several regional and large bank institutions responsible for managing Fair Lending and Responsible Banking (regulations including ECOA, HMDA, UDAAP/UDAP, FHA, CRA, MLA, SCRA) and HMDA regulatory submissions.

 
Christa holds a Doctorate in Applied Statistics (2002) with a concentration in Finance, a Masters in Applied Statistics (1998), and a Bachelor of Science (1995) in Applied Statistics with a minor in Organizational Speech Communication from the University of Alabama.

Jim Braaksma II

Director of Risk, Upstart

Jim has been in the financial services industry for over two decades, working in large financial institutions across a myriad of products. At Upstart, the leading AI lending marketplace focused on expanding access to affordable credit, Jim has led various functions including compliance governance, testing, training, complaints, fair lending, and third party risk management. Currently, Jim leads the Third Party Risk and Relationship Management team responsible for overall third party risk and compliance for Upstart and Upstart’s relationships with lending partners, examiners, investors, and suppliers.

Ruthann Redmon

Director, Fair and Responsible Servicing, Cenlar

Ruthann has over 30 years of experience in regulatory compliance at various financial institutions, spending the last 25 years honing her expertise and passions in the areas of fair lending and fair housing, HMDA, CRA, mapping and redlining analyses, UDAP/UDAAP, overall program development and remedies, for increasingly larger, complex and diverse institutions. Ruthann leads her current function primarily through proactive partnerships with the first lines of defense, fair lending analytics, risk assessments and control evaluations and recommendations, complaints reviews, and engaging with borrower communications, loss mitigation and default management, call centers and collections, operational change management and issue management, and industry engagements.

Over the years, she implemented and enhanced fair and responsible banking programs for the increasingly complex organizations from the points of risk identification through regulatory exam management. She has worked with all product types, mortgage and non-mortgage, including credit card, student lending, indirect auto lending, digital wallet products, and servicing. She has practical experience with regulatory remediation, customer impact analyses, and has been engaged with business transformations for proactive positioning.

Ruthann served as the Senior Vice President, Fair and Responsible Banking, for the U.S.-based BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria) from 2014-2019, where she worked directly on regulatory remediation matters while implementing and staffing an enhanced program to meet the demands and expectations fitting BBVA’s product complexities and business model.

Ruthann began her career as a data manager for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. It was during this time when her consumer protection interests were peaked through her interactions with its legal teams, Banking Supervision examiners, and the insights she gained of the overall regulation development and implementation process.

Ruthann was a member of the Consumer Bankers Association Fair Banking Committee from 2015 thru 2019. 

Donna L. Schmidt

Owner & Founder, DLS Servicing

Donna has over 35 years of experience in the mortgage servicing industry and is the co-creator of WaterFallCalc, an online loss mitigation evaluation and calculation tool. Prior to founding DLS Servicing in 1993, Donna held executive or management roles at several national servicers and has expertise in all aspects of mortgage servicing, including loan administration, payment and escrow processing, loan acquisitions and default management.

Laura Rau 

Chief Compliance Officer, EVP, Independent Financial Bank. 

Laura is responsible for compliance risk management across the bank, reporting to the Chief Risk Officer.

Laura has over 20 years of experience in regulatory compliance at various large and/or complex financial institutions. She has held roles in all three lines of defense, with the majority of experience focused on second line compliance program building and regulatory remediation. Her areas of functional expertise include global policy development and standardization, risk assessment, training, regulatory change management, new product change management, board reporting, and regulatory exam management. Laura has led major regulatory remediation and transformation initiatives for FinTech firms/MSB's, large global banks and US branches of foreign banks. She has deep experience helping various financial institutions navigate thru transformation initiatives, as well as enforcement actions, including experience working directly with multiple court appointed Monitors under DOJ and State Attorneys General orders. Laura has hands on experience working with key federal and state Banking regulators including the FRB, OCC, FDIC, CFPB, FTC, and States of TX, NY and CA, among others. Laura has also worked and partnered with various global financial regulators in the development of global standards and guidance.

Prior to joining Independent Financial Bank, Laura was the CCO of Texas Capital Bank. Laura also led the transformation of the regulatory compliance audit function at USAA. This was a new function for USAA which focused on a deeper approach towards regulatory compliance audits. Prior to USAA, Laura was the Vice President of Compliance Programs at the world’s largest and second largest MSB’s, and was a leader in a global consulting firm known for helping troubled financial institutions with regulatory compliance issues. Laura began her career as an auditor at the Federal Reserve Bank – 10th District.

Chris J. Willis

Partner, Troutman Pepper

Chris is the co-leader of the Consumer Financial Services Regulatory Practice Group at the firm. He advises financial services institutions facing state and federal government investigations and examinations, counseling them on compliance issues including UDAP/UDAAP, credit reporting, debt collection, and fair lending, and defending them in individual and class action lawsuits brought by consumers and enforcement actions brought by government agencies.

Chris also leverages insights from his litigation and enforcement experience to help clients design new products and processes, including machine learning marketing, fraud prevention and underwriting models, product structure, advertising, online application flows, underwriting, and collection and loss mitigation strategies.

Chris brings a highly practical focus to his legal advice, informed by balancing a deep understanding of the business of consumer finance and the practical priorities of federal and state regulatory agencies.

James Wylie

Associate Director,  Federal Housing Finance Agency Office of Fair Lending Oversight

James Wylie is the Associate Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s Office of Fair Lending Oversight. The office works to ensure Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks provide fair, equitable, and nondiscriminatory access to mortgage credit and housing. James’s team is responsible for fair lending supervision as well as equity policy at FHFA. Prior to joining FHFA, James worked on fair housing and fair lending at the CFPB and HUD, including implementing the Dodd-Frank Act regulations and HUD’s disparate impact and affirmatively furthering fair housing rules. James has also been an instructor and course developer for the National Fair Housing Training Academy. James has a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma and a B.A. in history from the University of Tulsa.

Patricia Hartsfield-Davis

Senior Advisor, Asurity Advisors LLC and Mitchel Sandler LLC

Patti is an independent consultant, currently aligned to Asurity Advisors and Mitchell Sandler LLC, with a focus on risk and compliance advisory services, including regulatory remediations, for financial institutions of all sizes. In addition to working with Asurity Advisors and Mitchell Sandler LLC, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for Sunrise Banks, N.A., a national bank that is also a Community Development Financial Institution.
 
Prior to entering consulting in 2021, she most recently served as Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer for Fifth Third Bank, N.A. Leading the Compliance Risk Management Division (~150 FTE), she was responsible for enterprise-wide governance and oversight of all technical- and principles-based regulatory compliance matters, for all lines of business and supporting operational areas. Prior to the CCO appointment, Patti served as Senior Compliance Director, leading a team of 50 FTE that provided compliance expertise and support to the Consumer Bank, together with enterprise-wide strategic direction on practices related to consumer protection in areas of fair lending (including redlining), UDAAP, privacy, marketing, and complaints oversight.

Before joining Fifth Third, Patti held senior compliance risk management positions at Ally Financial/Ally Bank where she directed all policy matters related to consumer practices, including fair lending and complaints management. Monica M. Shelton

Director of Regulatory Technology, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)

Monica M. Shelton is the Director of Regulatory Technology at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). In this role, Ms. Shelton directs a team of technologists who use agile methodologies for data collection solutions to support fair, competitive, and transparent, consumer finance markets. She oversees the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) and Small Business Lending (SBL) programs in the Technology & Innovation division. The regulatory technology section is responsible for regularly collecting, storing, and publishing disclosure data such as mortgage fillings. She assumed this role in August 2022.

Previously, Ms. Shelton served as the Director of Data Transparency at the Department of Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service. In that role, she led the operations of the multifaceted Data Transparency Office implementing agile, open source, and user-centered design methods to deliver innovative products and services.

Ms. Shelton earned a Master of Science in financial management, from University of Maryland and Bachelor of Science in management information systems with mathematics minor, cum laude, from Syracuse University.

Krista Shonk

Vice President and Senior Counsel, American Bankers Association

Krista Shonk is Vice President & Sr. Counsel for the American Bankers Association’s Fair and Responsible Banking group. In this role, she leads ABA’s advocacy on Community Reinvestment Act modernization and third-party risk management.

Ms. Shonk is a recognized expert on a wide range of financial institution regulatory and policy matters and has worked on a wide range of banking issues, including anti-money laundering requirements and the CFPB’s mortgage servicing rules. Prior to joining ABA, Ms. Shonk served as Associate General Counsel for Freddie Mac, where she advised on statutory and regulatory requirements for new products and new activities and managed regulatory filings for new business initiatives.

Ms. Shonk earned a B.A. from Bridgewater College and a J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law. She is a member of the Virginia Bar.

Jennifer Slagle Peck

Acting Deputy Chief in the Housing and Civil Enforcement Section, Department of Justice Civil Rights Division

Jennifer Slagle Peck is an Acting Deputy Chief in the Housing and Civil Enforcement Section of DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, where she is engaged in the enforcement of the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. Her work is largely focused on fair lending, including the Department’s Combating Redlining Initiative.

Previously, Jennifer was Counsel at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency where she advised the agency and national bank examiners on applicable consumer law, including fair lending, unfair and deceptive acts and practices, and statutes that protect servicemembers. Prior to her government service, Jennifer spent over seven years in private practice at Buckley Sandler, where she represented financial service clients in a wide variety of consumer finance matters, including fair lending.

Jennifer received her undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota and her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law. After law school she clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Ann Marie Pippin

Acting Deputy Director Division of Conservatorship Oversight and Readiness (DCOR), Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)

Anne Marie Pippin is the Acting Deputy Director of the Division of Conservatorship Oversight and Readiness (DCOR).

Ms. Pippin has over 13 years of public sector experience in mortgage finance, innovation, risk management and controls, and corporate governance. She joined FHFA in 2017 and most recently served as Associate Director of the Office of Governance and Strategic Initiatives and Office of Financial Technology in DCOR. In this role she was responsible for leading and coordinating Agencyefforts to understand technology-driven developments in housing finance, addressing emerging risks and advancing Agency priorities related to the responsible adoption and deployment of financial technology, as well as overseeing governance and strategic initiatives related to the conservatorship of the Enterprises (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac).

Previously in FHFA, she served as Governance Branch Manager and as an Examiner within the Division of Enterprise Regulation with broad coverage of governance topics, including corporate governance, model governance, artificial intelligence and machine learning risk management, and enterprise-wide risk management. She co-wrote the FHFA Advisory Bulletin 2022-02, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Risk Management, and wrote the FHFA Advisory Bulletin 2020-06, Enterprise Risk Management Program. 

Prior to joining FHFA, Ms. Pippin served in various risk management and governance functions in the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Department of the Interior, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Ms. Pippin also served as an analyst on climate risk at the White House Council on Environmental Quality in 2012. Stephen Hicks

Senior Vice President, Global Risk Executive, Bank of America

STEPHEN HICKS is Bank of America’s enterprise fair lending executive responsible for independently assessing compliance and operational risk specific to fair lending covering the entire lifecycle of all credit products.

Prior to joining Bank of America, Stephen spent 14 years at EY in its assurance and risk management practices, auditing and serving large banks, broker dealers and companies in the insurance and healthcare industries. He also served as EY’s National Director for Lending Risk Management, assisting many large banks in developing fair lending risk management programs and providing litigation support in litigation against banks brought by supervisory and enforcement agencies.

Stephen joined HSBC in 2002 to re-build its U.S. compliance program and strengthen its internal controls to comply with HSBC’s $500 million, multi-state UDAAP consent order. He held various roles in his 10-year tenure at HSBC including managing operational and compliance risk related to fair lending, Americans with Disabilities Act, sales practices, UDAAP, complaints management, regulatory relations and examination management, compliance monitoring and testing, privacy, e-channel and Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Jennie Heaton

Head of Fair and Responsible Banking, Truist Bank

Jennie Heaton has over 15 years of regulatory and legal experience with 13 years focused on fair banking and took the helm as Head of Fair and Responsible Banking at Truist Bank in January 2024, with oversight for fair lending, UDAAP, HMDA and Small Business Data Collection (1071). Jennie joined Truist/ BB&T in 2011 in a fair lending analytics role, which expanded over the years to include providing consultation on fair lending and UDAAP, managing advisory teams, and developing and implementing UDAAP programs.

Vicki Vidal

Senior Regulatory Counsel - Corporate Compliance, ICE Mortgage Technology

Vicki Vidal is Senior Regulatory Counsel, Corporate Compliance, at ICE Mortgage Technology. In this role, Vicki works with the enterprise’s Servicing Technologies & Product Innovation team to review regulatory requirements and identify upcoming regulatory changes. Vicki also works with key federal agencies to help ICE respond to significant and frequent regulatory changes in servicing. She provides regulatory expertise on a variety of laws and regulations that affect servicing.
Prior to joining ICE, Vicki was with the Mortgage Bankers Association for 23 years and was the Associate Vice President for Public Policy and Industry Relations. She was responsible for the trade association’s residential servicing policy and regulatory lobbying activities.

Lindsay Yousif

Executive Director, Compliance Fair & Responsible Banking Officer, Ally Financial

Lindsay is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) with over 21 years of experience serving as Chief Compliance Officer, Fair Lending Officer, and CRA Officer at large-sized institutions. She specializes in Fair Lending, UDAAP, CRA, and HMDA, and has successfully created compliance programs at financial institutions ranging from $500MM to over $175BB while managing regulatory examinations under the Federal Reserve, FDIC, OTS, OCC, and CFPB. During her career Lindsay has completed over 11 M&A’s, including as lead of the Compliance & Legal Workstream for the TCF and Chemical Bank merger of equals in 2019.

Lindsay is dedicated to ensuring credit opportunities are accessible to underserved persons and markets. She has passionately served on boards and committees of over 20 non-profit organizations including as President of the former Housing Opportunities for Macomb; Chair of the Macomb County CRA Association; Member of the Michigan Women’s Business Council’s Certification Committee; Co-Chair of the Neighborhood Stabilization Committee for the Nevada Banker’s Collaborative; and currently as a Board Member of the Fair Housing Center of Metro Detroit.

Christina Speh

Chief Compliance Officer, Wintrust Financial Corporation

Christina Speh is EVP, Chief Compliance Officer for Wintrust leading the Compliance program for Consumer Compliance, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), and BSA/AML/OFAC. She has over 30 years of experience in Compliance and Risk Management in Banking as a banker, regulator, consultant, and technology vendor. Prior to joining Wintrust, Speh was the SVP-US at TD Bank heading up Compliance for US Consumer Banking, Fair Banking, CRA, and Data Innovation in Consumer Compliance. Her previous experience includes financial services compliance and risk management consulting, developing and deploying innovative banking compliance solutions at start-up and international RegTech companies, and Consumer Compliance Policy work at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.

 
Ms. Speh successfully launched the CRA and Fair Lending Colloquium creating the leading conference for Community Reinvestment Act and fair lending practitioners. She is on the ABA’s Bank Advisory Council and has served as Chair of the Fair and Responsible Banking Consumer Bankers Association Committee. Lee Howerin

Vice President, Senior Compliance Risk Manager, Truist Financial Corporation

Lee started his professional career in television and radio broadcasting. While there was rarely a dull moment, eventually the odd hours and lack of advancement within the market lead to a decision to move in a different direction.

Lee entered the world of banking as a temporary employee in the BB&T Bankcard call center. This led to a contract working in the Fair Lending compliance department at RBC Bank, first reviewing CRA data and later HMDA. He was promoted to HMDA Coordinator for RBC Bank Mortgage in December 2008. In the aftermath of the mortgage crisis and the passage of the Dodd-Frank Act, he was convinced the coming change in HMDA regulation might provide opportunity for advancement in the coming years. He joined BB&T Mortgage as HMDA Specialist team manager in 2012 and was promoted to his current position in 2nd line HMDA Compliance in 2014. When the CFPB issued its Regulation C final rule the following year, he was given the task of writing the Enterprise Regulatory Requirements Document (RRD) for BB&T and assumed the role of lead subject matter expert on the new regulation.

Following the merger of BB&T and SunTrust, Lee has worked to unify and streamline Truist HMDA data to create more efficient and accurate HMDA data flows for all enterprise lines of business. He created a HMDA Boot Camp for Truist HMDA associates, which is an 8-hour live training which provides deep dives into every HMDA reportable field with a specific focus on procedures for data validation.

Lee has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. He attends First Presbyterian Church in Wilson, NC. He and his wife Karen have two daughters in this world and a son waiting for them in the next. Outside of the office, Lee enjoys theme parks, ECU athletics, Friday night football in Tarboro, NC and driving his girls to and from dance classes.

Michelle R. Brewer, CRCM

As Fair and Responsible Banking Officer for United Community, Michelle is responsible for overseeing compliance with fair banking regulations including UDAAP, ECOA, FHA, CRA, and HMDA. Headquartered in Greenville, SC, United has banking offices located throughout the Southeast. Michelle has been with United for 28 years as a legacy employee of The Palmetto Bank, which was acquired in 2015. Since joining United, she has worked with line of business leaders to enhance the foundation of the Banks commitment to the communities it serves.
 
Michelle has more than 30 years of diverse experience in financial services and regulatory compliance. Beginning in 1991, she advanced early in her banking career to hold positions in branch banking and support roles including customer service, management, and bank operations. Michelle joined The Palmetto Bank in 1996 which is where she transitioned into a compliance role in 1999 with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). She played a critical role in the development of The Palmetto Bank’s BSA program, vendor management program, and compliance management system. She was appointed and held the position of BSA Officer and Chief Compliance Officer.

Michelle has an Associate of Marketing and an Associate of Business Management from Greenville Technical College. She earned her Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) certification in 2005. She is a graduate of the South Carolina Bankers School and serves as a member of the South Carolina Bankers Association’s Compliance Committee. Deborah Grissom

Deborah is a seasoned financial services professional with executive experience in all facets of residential mortgage banking. Deborah has over 38 years of broad industry regulatory and operational experience with originations and quality control, secondary marketing, investor reporting, servicing, and loss mitigation. Deborah leads large and small projects related to regulatory and internal compliance, regulatory enforcement actions, lookbacks and operational assessments.
 
Most recently, Deborah was a Managing Director with a global advisory firm and a leader in the regulatory, mortgage and operations practice where she established a wholly owned NMLS licensed subsidiary that provides staff augmentation to mortgage originators and servicers. Deborah also led several large regulatory enforcement lookbacks, developing strategy and delivering results and recommendations for improvement to her clients. While at the advisory firm, Deborah also provided litigation support services, including large scale rebuttal review and deposition/trial testimony in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York as an expert on underwriting practices for loans in Residential Mortgage Backed Securities.

Prior to joining the global advisory firm, Deborah established a boutique consulting firm, Bladestone Financial LLC, to provide services domestically and in Latin America. Bladestone focused on origination and servicing operational assessments, residential mortgage lookback execution across the origination and servicing lifecycle with specialization in origination reviews, post close QC, regulatory and investor requirements and loss mitigation.

Deborah also held senior positions at Credit Suisse First Boston, buying and selling whole loans and at Wells Fargo Bank, as the manager of the secondary marketing department where she determined daily lending rates and negotiated contracts for the sale and compliant delivery of conventional and jumbo mortgage loans.
Deborah holds a BA from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin and a MBA from the University of San Diego. 

Lynn Woosley

Lynn Woosley is a Managing Director with Asurity Advisors. She is a seasoned executive with extensive risk management experience in consumer protection, regulatory compliance, consumer and commercial credit risk, credit and compliance risk modeling, model governance, regulatory change management, acquisition due diligence, and operational risk in both financial services and regulatory environments.

Over the last three decades, Lynn has held leadership positions including Senior Vice President and Fair and Responsible Banking Officer; Group Vice President for Wholesale Transaction Modeling; and First Vice President for Portfolio Management within the Enterprise Risk Management division of a top 10 bank. Prior to joining the private sector, Lynn served as Senior Examiner and Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. She also has 6 years’ experience in financial services consulting.

Carl Pry

Jesse Taylor rejoined the RiskExec team summer of 2022 as the Director of Compliance Products and Services after her previous tenure with the company from 2015 to 2019. Jesse’s experience includes completion of ground-up build-outs of fair lending analytic programs at multiple institutions, including facilitation of full-scope model validation projects in partnership with Quantitative Analytics and Model Risk departments. She has executed and supervised completion of risk assessments and fair lending reviews for underwriting, pricing, steering, redlining, branch distribution, marketing and servicing as well as assisted in examination preparation and response to multiple regulatory entities.
